Championship Field Player Information

This correspondence will verify your entry into the Michigan Girls’ Junior State Amateur Championship at Forest Akers Golf Course - West, Monday - Thursday, June 27-30, 2016. 

Please note your Monday starting time and starting tee assignment from the enclosed pairing sheet. You should arrive at your assigned tee at least ten (10) minutes prior to your scheduled starting time for instructions from the starter. TUESDAY'S SECOND ROUND WILL BE A 9 A.M. SHOTGUN START.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-96 to 127 N to the Trowbridge Road exit off 127/496. Turn R on Harrison Road. Entrance is just past Mt. Hope Road (about 1 mile).

LODGING:  A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites – Okemos for a group rate of $125 plus taxes. Rooms must be reserved by June 1st. Contestants may call the hotel (517) 349-8700 ext. 320 directly and identify themselves as part of the Michigan Junior Girls to receive a reduced rate on rooms. 

PRACTICE ROUND:  Please contact the golf shop for rates and availability, (517) 355-1635.  Contestants must call in advance to reserve a tee time and identify themselves as Michigan Girls Junior Amateur contestants.  

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is two strokes on the first offense and disqualification on any subsequent offense, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

:  Shirts with collars and sleeves are required; however women may wear collarless shirts with sleeves or sleeveless shirts with collars.  Neither tank tops, tee shirts, short shorts, gym shorts, cut-offs, bathing suits nor denim pants/shorts are permitted.  Players and caddies are expected to adhere to the dress code.

FOOD:  Monday: A complimentary lunch will be served to all of the participants after completion of the morning wave of the first round. If you are playing during the afternoon wave of the first round, you MUST eat lunch before the beginning of your round. On all other days the clubhouse will have food available for purchase. 

CADDIES/CARTS:  All players are required to walk. Contestants must carry their own bag, caddies are not permitted.  Carts are not permitted for players or spectators. Pull carts may be used if the club allows.

PRACTICE RANGE:  Complimentary for players on the day of the competition, prior to play only. The driving range will open one hour before the first tee time.

PLAYOFF:  In case of ties, there will be a playoff immediately following play for the final spot.  The low 16 players, as well as the low 8 players under the age of 16 outside of the overall top 16, qualify for match play.  A tie for the medalist honors as well as the final- spot in match play, shall be decided immediately after the completion of the 2nd round by a hole-by-hole playoff.

Note:  If a player qualifies and is unable to compete in the Match Play Championship, she must notify the Committee immediately so that the next eligible player may be included.

Match Play: General numerical USGA draw shall be used.  The stipulated round shall be extended to as many holes as required for a match to be won.

WITHDRAWAL:  If you must withdraw, contact the GAM office at (248) 478-9242. If you call after business hours, please leave message on voice mail #24.  Failure to notify may result in suspension from future GAM competitions.

Schedule of Events:
Monday, June 27 – 1st Round of Stroke Play Qualifying. Tee times start at 8:00 AM off of #1 & #10 tees. 
Tuesday, June 28 – 2nd Round of Stroke Play Qualifying. Shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
Wednesday, June 29 – 1st & 2nd Rounds of Match Play. Tee times start at 8:00 AM off #1 tee only. Afternoon matches will follow.
Thursday, June 30 – Semifinal and Final Matches. Tee times start at 8:00 AM off #1 tee only for Semifinal matches. Final Matches for both divisions will be played in the afternoon, following the conclusion of the morning matches.
