2019 Players of the Year
The GAM recently announced the 2019 Honor Role which is comprised of the Players of the Year in nine different age and gender categories. The end-of-season GAM Honor Role is determined by the GAM Player of the Year Points System. Players of the Year will be recognized at the GAM Annual Meeting at Plum Hollow Country Club on May 4th, 2020.
Men’s Player of the Year
Dan Ellis, East Lansing
The Michigan State University Assistant Men’s Golf Coach keyed his season point total by reaching the Round of 16 in the U.S. Mid-Amateur in Aurora, Colorado. He topped the honor roll point standing with 565 points.

Women’s Player of the Year
Yurika Tanida, East Lansing
A player on the Michigan State Women’s Golf Team, Yurika Tanida is the Women’s Player of the Year. Tanida, despite being a non-resident and ineligible for the Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship, topped the honor roll point standings with a dominant 805 points. Season highlights included qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and reaching the round of 64 in match play, as well as tying for second in the GAM Championship.

Senior Men’s Player of the Year
Steven Maddalena, Jackson
A Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member, three-time Michigan Amateur Champion and 1988 Men’s Player of the Year, Maddalena topped the Senior Men’s Honor Roll with 520 points powered by his in the GAM Senior Championship and the Senior Division of the GAM Mid-Amateur Championship.

Senior Women’s Player of the Year
Julie Massa, Holt
Massa highlighted her season by qualifying for the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, making match play and winning her first-round match. She also finished the season strong, winning both the GAM Tournament of Champions and the GAM Senior Tournament of Champions titles. This is her fifth-consecutive year as Senior Women’s POY, a new record.

Super Senior Player of the Year
Ian Harris, Bloomfield
Harris, 67 and a member of TPC of Michigan, won what he regarded as his “Grand Slam” of Super Senior golf with four titles in 2019, including three Golf Association of Michigan titles.

Boy’s Junior Player of the Year
August Meekhof, Eastmanville
A GAM member through the Meadows at Grand Valley State, Meekhof won the overall title in the GAM Junior Kickoff Championship, attempted qualification in the U.S. Amateur, made match play at the Michigan Amateur Championship, and competed on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit.

Girl’s Junior Player of the Year
Lilia Henkel, Grand Rapids
Henkel, a junior at Forest Hills Northern High School, highlighted her golf season by winning the Michigan Junior State Amateur Title.

Boy’s 15 & Under Player of the Year
Ryan O’Rourke, West Bloomfield.
O’Rourke, a freshman at Walled Lake Northern High School, capped off his summer season with wins in the 15-and-under division of the Michigan Junior State Amateur and the GAM Junior Invitational.

Girl’s 15 & Under Player of the Year
Kate Brody, Grand Blanc
Brody won the 14-and-under Match Play Championship and was medalist in the 15-and-under division for qualifying of the Michigan Girl’s Junior State Amateur Championship where she was a semifinalist in match play.
