GAM Members Get Head Start on GOLF DAYS at On the Dunes Sports

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP – Phil Hough of White Lake took his shot at the par 3 No. 7 hole that hangs precariously on the ocean’s edge at Pebble Beach Golf Links early in the Second GAM Golf Day Kickoff special event at On the Dunes Sports.

The simulated shot on the simulated Pebble Beach of the HD Golf Simulators stopped at 2-feet, 4-inches, and Hough stuck around with his friends to see if he would win the dozen Titleist golf balls that were that contest’s prize.

It held up and Hough was happy. He won a prize and he signed up early for the special GAM Golf Days this summer that he coveted. A crowd of 90 reconnected with golf friends and playing partners from Golf Days presented each year, and they were able to sign up for 2017 before online registration opens next Wednesday.

“There’s a couple that sell out right away, like Indianwood (Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion), so I wanted to get that one and a few others, like Plum Hollow (Country Club in Southfield), and we’ve never been to Tullymore (Golf Resort in Canadian Lakes), so we signed up for that one, too,” he said.

The GAM has secured 25 Golf Days between April 24 and the opening event at TPC of Michigan in Dearborn and Sept. 27 at Radrick Farms in Ann Arbor. Most are prices at $60 for the golf, cart and access to top golf courses across the state.

Included on the schedule this year is the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township, Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix, Prestwick Village Golf & Country Club in Highland, Country Club of Lansing, Muskegon Country Club, Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club and several more. See gam.org for the schedule, details and an opportunity to sign up.

“I’ve played in several for a few years now, and it’s the best thing about the GAM, the Golf Days,” Hough said. “You get to play courses you wouldn’t normally be able to play, a lot of great private clubs, and you get great prices, too.”

Hough has a regular group of public golfers he tees it up with, and usually the group hits four to five GAM Golf Days each year. He said Saturday was great for signing up, but also to take a few swings.

“I haven’t made any swings for quite a while with the weather, but then first shot, I hit it in there in the contest,” he said and laughed. “Now my game will go downhill the rest of the year.”

The popular GAM Golf Day Series Championship is being presented for the second time with 10 of the Golf Days events on the schedule serving as qualifiers for the championship. The championship is slated for Oct. 3 at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion.

On the Dunes Sports, 2055 Haggerty, is a roomy bar and grill that includes 10 state of the art HD Golf Simulators and a practice putting green that provide golfers the ability to play indoors on simulated courses from around the world. It was busy Saturday with the GAM offering the Pebble Beach contest, a field goal contest with a golf shot to theme with the Super Bowl and a putting contest. Pizza, salad and soft drinks were also included for the GAM members who registered and attended.
