GAM Announces Tournament Schedule, New Registration Method, Junior Player Grants

Planning for the 2023 Golf Association of Michigan tournament season is nearing completion with a few new wrinkles and sites as well as competitive opportunities and excitement for all ages and genders included.

  • Major championship sites and dates are almost complete.
  • A new registration method for tournaments through Golf Genius will debut on Feb. 15 for part of the scheduled tournaments. More tournaments will open to registration on March 15 and the final group will open for registration on April 12.
  • GAM Junior Tournament Player Grants based primarily on financial need to help offset tournament golf expenses are available for the second time via the GAM Foundation.

The Michigan Amateur Championship is returning to Oakland Hills Country Club’s North course June 20-24 and 14 qualifiers have been scheduled in May and early June to help determine the starting field for the 112th edition of the state championship. Oakland Hills is hosting for the fourth time on the North course.

The Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship is also returning to a favored spot at Spring Lake Country Club. The 107th state championship is set for Aug. 7-11. This is the third time since 2015 the championship has been played at the West Michigan club.

The GAM Championship sites and dates for men and women have also been established. The 102nd GAM Championship will be played July 31 through Aug. 1 at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, while the 32nd GAM Women’s Championship will be contested July 17-18 at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti. Six qualifiers in July are being planned to determine the starting field for the men’s championship.

State championships for senior men and women and junior boys and girls, including net and popular GAM Golf Days for all members are in the works, and some have been determined. Click HERE to see the 2023 schedule.

Registration for tournaments has a new format, internet destination and process this year. Starting this season, all registration for GAM Tournaments and GAM Golf Days will be conducted through Golf Genius.

To register for any GAM Tournament or GAM Golf Day, you must create an account in the Golf Genius system. You must be an active member of the GAM, but there is no additional charge for setting up an account. Please see directions below and note that the process is different depending on if you have a Golf Genius account already established through your club or a different association.

After setting up an account, you should receive a confirmation e-mail. Please make sure [email protected] is on your list of approved e-mail senders as that address will send you all relevant tournament information, including tee times and player memos.

As for the GAM Junior Tournament Player Grants, they are again available to GAM juniors and their families and the online application is live for accepting applications.

Grants, 36 total at $275 each, will be provided through the annual application process based primarily on family financial need and outside factors creating funding gaps for expenses related to competitive golf. One grant is intended to offset costs for one tournament; a junior player may request up to two grants per year.

These funds highlight the GAM Foundation’s commitment to make golf affordable and accessible to the widest possible audience. Learn more at GAM.org/Foundation.

As for GAM.org, new formatting should make the GAM website more user friendly and accessible for information, scheduling, and more.
