The Bogey Golf Tour is an amateur golf
tour for the average golfer that looks and feels just like the PGA but is geared
towards the 99% of golfers who can’t break par. Designed to give
average golfers access to premier private and public facilities and have fun in
a PGA style tournament.
They take a hands-on approach to networking by introducing sponsors
directly to participants, creating lasting relationships to build on. By
sponsoring the tour, you’re helping to raise money for local charities which
they’re proud to announce over $100,000 has been raised since 2006.
The tour was founded in Windsor, Ontario in 2003 by Jeff Derochie and in
2006 a deal was made for Todd and Michelle to become the new owners and
tournament directors. The tour has
run over 238 PGA style tournaments for average golfers in Southwest Ontario and
Southeast Michigan since inception. They have taken a lot of time and effort to build a
website that makes it easy for golfers to register for events, see their
profiles, winnings and tournament history.
In 2012, the business expanded to include 8 tournaments in Michigan as
well as the Ontario schedule. Bogey Golf
Tour now offers both a Canadian chapter and an American chapter. The American
chapter in 2018 will be visiting courses such as: TPC Michigan, Treetops Golf
Resort and Dearborn Country Club. Currently, all golf courses in the
tour are within a one hour travelling radius of Windsor/Detroit. Tournament
play in Ontario can be as far east as Chatham, remaining convenient for American
and Canadian tour members.
In 2015, Bogey Golf Tour joined the Golf Association of Michigan in
order to provide official handicaps for their members as well as all the perks
that come with being a GAM member.
At the end of each golf season, Bogey Golf Tour hosts the BGT
Invitational which includes a gourmet dinner, additional prize money and a
prize table for each player to receive a gift based on the order of their merit
points throughout the year.
Memberships for Bogey Golf Tour are $79.95 for the entire golf season. All Bogey Golf Tour members receive a GAM
membership, Bogey Golf Tour membership card, quick series pocket book of golf
rules, discounts at participating courses and sponsors, and eligibility to play
in all of the season’s tournaments. There is no handicap requirement to join
the tour; the only pre-requisite is the love of golf and friendly competition.
At each tournament the field of
handicaps are divided by three in order to have equal number of golfers in each
division and similar prize pots. The divisions are broken down as follows:
– Par handicap (approx. 0-11.9) play from Blue Tees
– Bogey handicap (approx. 12-16.9) play from White Tee
– Double Bogey handicap (approx. 17-27.0) play from White Tee
– Women play from Red Tee
Each tournament plays in threesomes with a shotgun start in order to
finish in less than 4.5 hours. Merit points are awarded at each tournament with
trophies awarded at the BGT Invitational. There are prizes for low gross, top 3
low nets, longest drive and closest to the pin for each division. If you
play in two or more tournaments throughout the season, you will qualify for
that countries BGT Invitational.
On the day of a tournament, members can expect to be greeted by a
tournament director and guided to registration for their complimentary snack
and beverage. The golfer then heads over to the course practice facility to
take advantage of the tour’s sports fitness instructor in order to get warmed
up properly for the day. Golfers gather for announcements, introduction of
the sponsor and any special local rules. They will then be escorted out to
their starting hole and enjoy a fun competitive round of golf. Afterwards,
golfers gather to enjoy a beverage and talk about their rounds with one another
inside the clubhouse or patio while the prizes for long drive and closest to
the pin are awarded. Tournament scores are posted the next day with any
winnings going on the golfer’s account to use towards future tournaments. Any
prizes can be collected at the next tournament or by contacting the director.
Bogey Golf Tour creates the true PGA feel for the amateur golfer… Have
Fun, Play Fast, Play by the Rules.
