Michigan Women’s Golf Association Annual Meeting Recap

Michigan Women’s Golf Association (MWGA) May 12, 2018 Annual Meeting and

2-Woman Scramble at Twin Lakes GC, Oakland, Mich.

May 15, 2018, Farmington, Mich.  Eighty members attended the May 12 Annual Meeting at Twin Lakes GC in Rochester Hills, Mich. Francine Pegues, President, reported the Association is financially strong, but could use additional members. She asked those present to bring in one new member, especially younger women as the MWGA membership is aging. She also encouraged all to volunteer on committees and at events, saying it’s the volunteers in the Association that make it such a great organization.

The meeting and lunch concluded at 1pm and golf was a 2pm shotgun start. During the meeting live and Chinese auctions were held for items donated to benefit the MWGA/LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Program as well as a drawing for a raffle ticket for a 1997 Stanley Cup Championship Red Wings Golf Bag and an autographed 2012 U.S. Senior Pin Flag.

Because of early inclement weather golfers were given the option to withdrawal and receive a rain check. Thirty-six women chose to take the rain checks, which the course is emailing to them. “The 44 players who stayed for the scramble were pleasantly surprised as the weather cleared up, the sun came out, and they were able to remove at least one layer of outer wear.” shared Cynthia Pinkard, Technology Director, Webmaster and member of the Competition & Events Committee. ”For the most part, those who golfed were very glad they stayed. It was cart pathed only, but the course was in very good shape with only a few wet spots to maneuver. Although the lead groups finished in less than 4-hours, most of the field finished in over 5 hours, with the last couple of groups completing the round in over 5.5 hours.” Some results follow. For those not familiar with the Michigan Women’s Golf Association, membership is available to amateur female golfers of all ages and skill levels — from students in high school and college to experienced, super senior golfers and all women in between. In addition, MWGA members may sponsor a male for membership, allowing an avenue by which to obtain a USGA Index. An association membership is offered to organizations and businesses wishing to support and receive information from the MWGA, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1986 with presently over 200 members.

The MWGA provides a variety of golf competitions, rules and skills clinics and a match play league for female golfers.  A couple of competitions are open to member male partners too. An excellent Girls Golf Program offering golf instructions for girls and boys as well as a junior golf league is also available.
