BRIGHTON – Oak
Pointe Country Club’s Championship Course, a traditional parkland course
redesigned by noted Michigan golf course architect Jerry Matthews, will host
the 28th GAM Net Team Championship presented by Michigan Golf Live Monday.
Oak Pointe, a
popular private club in Livingston County, features two golf courses; the
Championship, and the Honors Course.
A field of 40 teams
of two men, two women, or one man and one woman determined by July sectional
events will play 18 holes of net four-ball to determine a championship duo.
The Championship
Course at Oak Pointe is a former major renovation project of Matthews. He did
it based on his principal of fitting the course to the natural terrain, and added
49 bunkers through the rolling hills and valleys. Narrow fairways framed by
natural heather put the premium on accuracy on the course that plays to a
maximum of 6,504 yards.
Robin Rasch is the
head golf professional at Oak Pointe, and Charles Fort is the director of
agronomy and the superintendent.

As for the competition,
Chelsea’s Ishmael Picklesimer and Tom Hollandsworth, last year’s winners, are
not in this year’s final field. They shot a net 59 to win the 27th championship
at Oakland University’s R&S Sharf course last year. Stephen Bernardi and
Scott Faulkner, a Macomb team, was second with a 62.
