To Devon Compton, short is beautiful. It was her short game that saved the day and helped her capture the Michigan Girls Junior State Amateur title at the Country Club of Jackson Wednesday.
Compton defeated Sarah Johnson 3&2 to win the championship.
?I made some putts and my short game was really working today,? said Compton. ?That was the whole key to winning for me.?
Compton was down 2 after five holes, managed to tie things up on the ninth, went 1-up after 13 and 2-up after 14. The 14th hole proved to be huge in contributing to her victory.
?I had an Eagle on number 14 from 15 yards so that really helped out,? said Compton.
Compton, 16, plays golf for Rochester Stony Creek High School.
