October 12, 2018, Farmington, Mich. The MWGA Match Play League (MPL) Championship played at Lake Forest GC in Ann Arbor, Mich. had a surprising ending when the two final competitors finished in a tie after 18 holes and made the decision to share the title. Thus Deb Horning (Bloomfield Hills), Flight 1, and Denise Buechel (Walled Lake), Flight 4, share the title as 2018 MPL Champions! The rest of the field playing that day divided into two teams, the Red Team and Blue Team and at the end of the matches, the Blue Team won 4.0 points to 3.0 points.
The always popular 2-Day/2-Person Eraser held at The Nightmare in West Branch, Mich. Sept. 22-23 had very good attendance as usually is the case. 92 competitors enjoyed the course and at the end of the two days, winners of first and second Low Gross and first and second Low Net were as follows in the four flights:

On Saturday, November 10 from 9am-1pm an MWGA Long Range Planning Meeting for members only will be held at The Tin Cup Bar and Grill at Whispering Willows Golf Course in Livonia. There is no cost to attend. A full breakfast buffet will be included at 9:30am. Register online at www.mwgolf.org by November 2 so the restaurant can plan for enough food. The golf course will be open for play after the meeting.
Some topics to be discussed include:
- What do members want MWGA to be for the next 3-5 years
- Are members satisfied with 10-12 golf events annually
- What formats and courses are desired
- How does the association continue the Girls Golf Program when members are not available to help
- Do members want social events and golf trips during the spring and winter months
- How does the association grow its membership among younger golfers
- What else would members like from the MWGA
If members cannot attend but have thoughts to be shared, they can email Francine Pegues, President, at [email protected] or call her at 313-822-2026.
For those not familiar with the Michigan Women’s Golf Association, membership is available to amateur female golfers of all ages and skill levels – from students in high school and college to experienced, super senior golfers and all women in between. In addition, MWGA members may sponsor a male for membership, allowing an avenue y which to obtain a USGA Index. An association membership is offered to organizations and businesses wishing to support and receive information from the MWGA, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1986 with presently over 200 members.
The MWGA provides a variety of golf competitions, rules and skills clinics and a match play league (MPL) for female golfers. A couple of competitions are open to member male partners too. An excellent Girls Golf Program offering golf instructions for girls and boys as well as a junior golf league is also available.
