LAKE ORION – October acted like August, at least for one more day, as Indianwood Golf & Country Club hosted the GAM Golf Days Series Championship Tuesday.
Winners, both net and gross, were determined among men, women and senior men. Those eligible by having won a previous Golf Day event earlier in the season battled to be first again and receive a free Golf Day of their choice in 2019. Gift certificates were also awarded to the top six golfers in each category.
Winning in the men’s gross competition was Nathan Snow of Twin Lakes Golf & Swim Club, who shot 70. Stephen Martin of The Medalist shot 74 and won a scorecard playoff to get second. Ryan Schumacher of Indianwood and Tim Scism of Tullymore Golf Resort also shot 74.
Winning in the men’s net competition was Corey Spanke of Royal Oak Golf Club. He shot a net 70. Neil Nelson of Radrick Farms was second with a net 71. He won the free Golf Day as Spanke was not eligible for the Series Championship. Matt McPeak of Rackham Golf Course was third with a net 72.
Winning in the women’s gross competition was Jode Chapa of the Michigan Women’s Golf Association. She shot a 96 and won a card playoff with Yvette Johnson of the MWGA. Dode McGee of Oakhurst Country Club was third with 100.
Winning in the women’s net was Pat Shelton of the MWGA with a net 70. Terry Jackson of Bay Pointe Golf Club was second with a net 75, and Lynn Thompson of the GAM Tournament Club was third with an 83.
Winning in the senior men’s gross competition was Dan Vaughan of Sunnybrook Country Club in Grandville, who shot 71, and edged fellow Sunnybrook member Kerry Buettner, who shot 72. Mike Kiss of Macatawa Legends in Holland shot 75.
Winning in the senior men’s net was Tom Mulhern of the Michigan Publinx Golf Association. He shot a net 65. Greg Yost of Whispering Willows Golf Club in Livonia carded a net 68 for second. Third went to John Dobbins of the Golfweek Amateur Tour, who shot a net 70.
A field of 79 golfers competed at the close of the ninth season of GAM Golf Days, a service for GAM members that offers playing opportunities at top golf courses across the state, including private clubs, for cost-saving rates. Golf Days offer a casual yet competitive day of golf to all GAM members, men and women, and provide opportunities no matter how they play the game.
Entry fees, between $60 and $100 per player, includes 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls for warmup and prizes at the conclusion of the day. Each player receives their full course adjusted USGA/GAM Handicap. Players must have an active USGA/GAM Handicap to be eligible in the Net Division.
