GRAND RAPIDS – Michigan’s best senior golfers will be featured when Thousand Oaks Golf Club hosts the 13th GAM Senior Four-Ball Championship presented by the West Michigan Golf Show on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A field of 50 two-golfer teams will play 36-holes of four-ball over the two days of competition to determine a champion team in the senior overall division (age 55-plus) and a super senior division (age 65-plus).
Thousand Oaks, a Rees Jones signature design that opened in 1999, is a Northern Michigan-style golf course located just minutes from downtown Grand Rapids.
The sweeping modern design with classic-style green settings rolls over hilly terrain naturally and features five sets of tee positions on each hole. It plays from 5,328 yards to a maximum of 7,128 yards and challenges all levels of golfers.
Dramatic elevation changes and stunning vistas are also part of the package, as well as the popular Reds restaurant located in the clubhouse/event facility and the Thousand Oaks Golf Academy and practice facility with its award-winning instructors, including five-time Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year Charley Vandenberg.
The golf club, private since 2016 and part of the Watermark Properties group of golf courses in West Michigan, has been consistently ranked among Michigan’s top courses since its opening. Bob Carson and Brian Miller of Lake Orion are returning to defend their title and play for the Gus Cosmos Trophy. They battled John Anderson and Michael Fitzstephens of St. Joseph in a two-hole sudden-death playoff to win a year ago at Country Club of Jackson. Carson and Miller had finished second in the two prior years. Two-time champions as teammates in 2014 and 2016, Randy Lewis of Alma and Roy Schultheiss of Bay City, are also in the field.
The Super Senior division winners of a year ago, Bill Zylstra of Dearborn Heights and Ned Bacon of Lansing, are also returning to defend. They won in three-hole playoff last year against Daniel Gregg and David Gordon of Ann Arbor.
