Spring Meadows Country Club Hosting 30th GAM Net Team Championship

LINDEN – Spring Meadows Country Club, a club that has emphasized family since its 1957 founding, is hosting the first stage of a popular get-a-partner of any gender and play tournament – the 30th GAM Net Team Championships Monday.

A field of 56 teams, or 112 golfers, including some family duos, will play in an enhanced format in 2020. At least eight teams emerging from play on Monday will advance to the final day of the championship on Sept. 17 at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club in Northville to determine one championship team.

The two-person teams, featuring any combination, will play 18 holes with net four-ball scoring to determine the teams that move on.

Spring Meadows, which hosted the 98th Michigan Amateur Championship in 2009 and the 100th Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship in 2016, was founded as a club in 1957 and opened its classic golf course in 1959.

It is a full-service private club built on a former cornfield and pasture in 1958 by the golf course architect Larry Packard of the then Packard and Wadsworth firm. The course was dedicated on Memorial Day of 1959.

It plays to 6,923 yards from the back-tee positions with six tee choices and features a great variety of parkland style golf holes.

Rick Slaght Jr. is the golf professional, and Craig Henderson is the superintendent.

Lake Orion’s Ron Blackmore and Sylvan Lake’s Kevin Renaud are returning to defend their win in the 29th championship finals last year at Birmingham Country Club. They put together a net team score of 64 to win the finals stage a year ago.

Other past champion teams are also entered, including 2018 winners Geoffrey Arnoldy and Nick Badgley, 2016 and 2015 winners Dwaine Jones and Kevin Kotzian, 2011 winners Rich and Rick Rachner and 2001 and 2002 winners Mike and Jack McHale.
