Polo Fields Golf & Country Club Hosting 19th Michigan Net Amateur Championship

ANN ARBOR –  The Polo Fields Golf & Country Club has hosted a variety of Golf Association of Michigan tournaments in recent years, and this time the 19th Michigan Net Amateur Championship gets its chance to enjoy the club’s modern links style golf course.

A field of 57 male golfers with USGA/GAM Handicap Indexes of 20.4 or better square off over 36 holes of net stroke play Monday and Tuesday to determine a state net champion.

The Polo Fields was designed by Ann Arbor’s own William Newcomb, an award-winning designer, and opened in 1995. It is a private golf club with generous fairways, a variety of different design features through the 18 holes and fast challenging greens.

The course plays to a maximum of 6,828 yards and has multiple tee positions starting from 5,122 yards.

Eric Mason is the PGA golf professional and director of golf and membership at the club, and Jim Priebe is the superintendent. Visit polofieldssccmi.com for more information.

Last year, Carl LaBorde of White Lake, a website developer, shot a net 8-under 63 off a gross 83 in the final round, his best round of the summer, to win by one shot over Bill Raune of Macomb.

LaBorde is returning this year to defend, and three other former champions are in the field – Mike Kidder of Ann Arbor (2009), two-time winner Michael Brown of Battle Creek (2008, 2009) and Geoffrey Bailey of Warren (2005).
