Classic Country Club of Lansing Hosting GAM Four-Ball Championship

LANSING – The Country Club of Lansing, which features a classic William Langford-designed course that dates to 1921, will welcome many of the top golfers in the state Monday for the popular 8th GAM Four-Ball Championship.

A field of 78 two-golfer teams with combined GAM/USGA Handicap Indexes under 10.8 will compete in the 18-hole best-ball competition.

Country Club of Lansing, which also hosted this championship in 2017, has a time-tested championship golf course and at the same time is family oriented and offers a full range of amenities, including a driving range, tennis courts, fitness facility, swimming and dining.

Founded in 1908, The Lansing Golf Club was formed by a group of 17 men. In 1920 members acquired 160 acres of land that adjoined the club and Langford, a nationally known golf course architect of the time, was commissioned to develop the new course layout.  The Chicago Park Builders were engaged to construct the course, and the new clubhouse which was designed by Samuel Butterworth.  In 1921 a new opening and a new name emerged – the Country Club of Lansing.

In 1999 a $7 million renovation to the clubhouse helped the club continue to provide a traditional country club lifestyle for its membership, their families and guests. The course plays to a maximum of 6,889 yards from the championship tee positions.

John Lindert, vice president of the PGA of America, is the director of golf and Mark Magee the superintendent. Find out more about the Country Club of Lansing at cclansing.org.

The 78 teams on Monday will be split between a morning wave of tee times and an afternoon wave of tee times. Winners and runners-up are determined in each wave, and a card playoff will decide any ties between the waves in determining an overall winner for the championship.

Last year at Country Club of Jackson, former Michigan State University classmates and teammates, Dan Ellis of East Lansing and Jimmy Dewling of Brighton, shot an 11-under 61 at Country Club of Jackson to win the morning wave and overall championship for the second time. Their first win was in 2017 at Country Club of Lansing
