Hawk Hollow Hosting 2022 Michigan Amateur Championship

BATH – Hawk Hollow Golf Course, the original property that is now part of the Eagle Eye Golf & Banquet Center’s collection of five courses near East Lansing, will host the 2022 Michigan Amateur Championship, June 27 – July 1.

The Jerry Matthews-designed 27-hole facility will host the 110-year-old state championship for the first time. The family-owned business also hosted the 105th Michigan Amateur in 2016 at Eagle Eye Golf Club.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to hold our championship at Hawk Hollow,” said Ken Hartmann, senior director of competitions for the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM). “We’ve worked with the people there and they were great hosts in every way in 2016 and we expect this Amateur to go just as smoothly.”

Previously Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville was announced as the 2022 site, but a club practice area construction project forced a change.

Hartmann said the golfers will find a challenge at Hawk Hollow that is different from playing Eagle Eye in 2016.

“You can swing it some at Hawk Hollow, but there are things to think about with trees, bunkers and penalty areas,” he said. “Like Eagle Eye, it’s always in great shape, and holes 15 through 18 are great finishing holes. You really have to play well on those holes to finish a round, and that will add some excitement to match play, too.”

Richard Henderson, president and CEO of Eagle Eye and Hawk Hollow Golf Courses, said he and his staff are excited for the opportunity to host the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in Michigan.

“We recognize the GAM’S continuing efforts to promote the game of golf and are proud to join them for this great championship,” he said. “Our team is looking forward to working closely with the GAM team to make the 111th Michigan Amateur Championship a very special event.”

The GAM tournament staff will utilize the first 18 holes of the Hawk Hollow course, which can be played at a maximum 6,974 yards with a 74.4 Course Rating and 145 Slope Rating. The course has hosted a U.S. Senior Open qualifier in recent years, as well as a GAM Women’s Mid-Amateur and the Atlas Trophy Matches.

“It’s close to the same yardage range we’ve had in other amateurs,” Hartmann said. “Hawk Hollow will be a great challenge. I don’t think it favors a certain type of player, except a great player. We’re confident it will help us determine a deserving champion.”

The traditional parkland-style course was built in 1996 and cuts through 500 acres of tree stands, wetlands areas and ponds. It has been rated 4 ½ stars out of 5 by Golf Digest and has been listed in the magazine’s top 200 Places to Play. For additional information visit EagleEyeGolfClub.com.
