Entering its third decade, the Evans Scholars Golf Classic is taking a giant step forward.
The 21st Evans Scholars Golf Classic will be held Monday July 19, 2010 at Detroit Golf Club. One of the oldest privately funded charities in the country, the Evans Scholars Foundation provides full college scholarships to deserving caddies throughout the United States.
Since 1899 Detroit Golf Club has been one of the great golf venues in the state. Both the North and South courses will be used for the Classic with an afternoon shotgun immediately following lunch.
?Detroit Golf Club and the Evans Scholars have a long and storied history together,? said tournament director Jon Norgard, ?DGC provides a marquee venue to increase awareness for the Evans Scholars. It feels like the tournament is going home.?
Rather than the typical scramble format, the Evans Scholars Golf Classic allows each golfer to play his/her own ball and the two best scores from each foursome will count towards the team score on each hole. A handicap system will be in place to insure competitive balance. Additionally, as the Evans Scholars program is designed to benefit caddies, each golfer will have his/her own caddie for their round. Any golfer who would prefer a cart will be accommodated.
Besides the golf, all participants in this first class event will receive a commemorative gift, team photo, locker room access, use of the practice range, lunch, snacks, beer, pop, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and dinner. The dinner program will include a raffle as well as silent and live auctions in which golfers can bid on an array of top shelf items including sports memorabilia, tickets, and many other unique and exciting prizes. Tickets for the dinner program are available for non-golfers.
