Apple Mountain Golf Club Hosting GAM Senior Four-Ball Championship

FREELAND – Michigan’s best senior amateur golfers will be featured when Apple Mountain Golf Club hosts the 16th GAM Senior Four-Ball Championship on Monday and Tuesday.

A field of 43 two-golfer teams will play 36-holes of four-ball over the two days of competition to determine a champion team in the senior overall division (age 55-plus) and a super senior division (age 65-plus). The overall winners have their names inscribed on the Gus Cosmos Trophy.

Apple Mountain’s course, which opened for the 1998 season, was designed by John Sandford of Florida-based Sanford Ferris Design and in 2018 drainage and sand improvements were made to greenside bunkers.

Sanford created a championship course with four sets of tee boxes on each holes and generous fairways. Water and elevation changes are part of the challenge on a scenic course that can be played as long as 6,900 yards.

The full-service public/resort facility has built a reputation for great course conditions under superintendent Chris Ballosh. Chad Maxim is the PGA head golf professional. Learn more at applemountain.com.

Last year at The Pohlcat in Mount Pleasant the brothers-in-law team of Mike Ignasiak of Saline and Randy Frederick of Chesterfield won with significant help from an 11-under 61 in the first round. The 2019 champions Tom Daigle of Wixom and Kevin Klemet of White Lake finished second. Ignasiak and Frederick are not in this year’s field, but Daigle and Klemet return.
