Oak Pointe Country Club Hosting GAM Two-Person Scramble Monday

BRIGHTON – Oak Pointe Country Club’s Championship Course, a traditional parkland course redesigned by Michigan golf course architect Jerry Matthews, will host the second GAM Two-Person Scramble presented by Dunham’s Sports on Monday, Sept. 12.

The tournament debuted last year at Cherry Creek Golf Club. It is designed to serve golfers beyond the elite players in the state playing as a team and this year 43 teams will take part.

Played in a standard scramble format, the tournament will determine gross and net winning teams and teams can include men and women GAM members. Senior tees will be used for men over 55 and women over 50.

Oak Pointe, a popular private club in Livingston County, features two golf courses, the Championship, and the Honors Course.

The Championship Course is a former major renovation project of Matthews, a Michigan Golf Hall of Fame architect. He did it based on his principal of fitting the course to the natural terrain and added 49 bunkers through the rolling hills and valleys. Narrow fairways framed by natural heather put the premium on accuracy on the course that plays to a maximum of 6,504 yards.

Devin O’Halloren is the director of golf, Trevor Parker is the head golf professional and Christian Koval is the director of golf course maintenance.

Last year, Kevin Voke of Rochester Hills and Chris Pappas of Novi shot a 10-under 62 to win the gross competition at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township. Tim Scollin of Auburn Hills and Brian Morgan of Rochester teamed up for a 12-under net 60 off a 10-under gross score to win the net competition.
