BRIGHTON — Matthew and David DeMarois (Brighton / Lakelands CC) won the 9th GAM Junior Team Championship in the Boys Division with a 65 at their home course, Lakelands Country Club. The sibling duo topped the runner-up team of Paul Bartkowiak and Evan Bowser, both of Dearborn Country Club, by one stroke.
“We didn’t putt that well but our approach shots were good so that is what really helped us more than anything,” said David DeMarois. “We were pretty much hitting the clutch shots.”
None more clutch than David’s approach shot on 18 that landed the ball three feet away from the pin.
“We made birdie on that hole and won by one stroke,” said DeMarois. “So that hole was the key.”
Heather Marks (Byron Center / L.E. Kaufman) and Gabrielle Shipley (Hastings / Gull Lake View) won the Girls Division with a 68 and kissed the trophy simultaneously after the victory. Then won by three strokes over Alex Plemmons and Molly Esordi of Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club.
In the Mixed Division, Kaitlyn Brasher and Alex Hemmila (Grand Blanc / Atlas Valley) won the Championship with a 75.
