FARMINGTON HILLS – Jeremy Ball (Bloomfield Hills / The Heathers Club) knew when he hit his 9-iron on the 18th hole at Glen Oaks GC and landed 15 feet from the hole that he was going to end his day on a positive note. He birdied the hole and won the 2nd GAM Boys Stroke Play Championship with a 72-75-147.
“I didn’t really know where anyone was in the standings or how anyone else was doing,” said Ball, 14. “But I knew that was a good shot and that it might give me the chance for a good finish. It turned out to be a very clutch shot because that birdie is what gave me the win.”
Ball topped runner-up Ashwin Arasu (Ann Arbor) by two strokes.
“I wasn’t hitting my driver all that well but I managed to make some good shots on the fairway and make some good hits around the green and that was the difference I think,” said Ball. “My putting was on and off but overall I’m happy with how I played.”
Ball will play for Brother Rice next year.
