Four Lucky Winners Grab Prizes at West Michigan Golf Show

FARMINGTON HILLS – While most Michigan golfers are longing for the snow to melt, four GAM members are especially interested in an early spring. Jan Dancer (Kalamazoo/Eastern Hills GC), Scott Sillman (Ionia/Thornapple Pointe GC) and Tim LaVasseur (Augusta/Gull Lake View) each won new golf equipment at the West Michigan Golf Show last weekend while Elizabeth Ganiere (Nappanee/Heritage Glen) will head to Boyne Resorts for the 100th Michigan Amateur in June. All of the winners signed up for a GAM membership or renewed their membership at the West Michigan Golf Show and were automatically entered into the drawing.

“As far as I’m concerned it’s not worth getting up in the morning if you’re not going to golf,” said Dancer. “I didn’t start playing until I was 55 and I’m 67 now.  I thought it was the dumbest game in the world because I used to play tennis but now I think it’s the best game!”

Dancer is undergoing knee surgery this month so she will be prepared to tee off when spring finally arrives.  So her Wilson’s Hope Women’s package — which includes new clubs and a new golf bag – will be just what the doctor ordered.

LaVasseur, 55, won an Odyssey Black Tour Design putter and says a new putter is long overdue.

“I’ve got an old Bullseye putter and I am not even sure how old it is because I didn’t get it new,” said LaVasseur.  “I’ve got a new hybrid 3-wood that I really like so a new putter could only help my game!”

Sillman will hit the links with a new Callaway Diablo Octane Tour 3-Wood.

Ganiere, a Michigan native who now lives near South Bend Indiana, will travel to one of her all time favorite courses, Boyne Highlands, on June 20 to play a round of golf and participate in a golf clinic with CBS analyst Gary McCord. The clinic is part of the week-long celebration of the 100th Michigan Amateur.

“I have this attachment to Michigan,” said Ganiere. “I still own a house there and all of my friends are there. South Bend is just a stone’s throw away from Michigan so I get there often.  I’m very excited to be going to Boyne!”
