Dave Kendall to enter Jackson Golf Hall of Fame

(Ypsilanti, Mich.) Dave Kendall, an accomplished golfer on and off the course, has been selected as an inductee into this year’s Jackson (Mich.) Golf Hall of Fame. The committee selected Kendall, a Jackson native and a 1973 graduate of Jackson High School, for both his playing record and his teaching excellence.

“I’m deeply honored by this recognition—Jackson is one of the best golf communities in the state—and it caught me completely by surprise,” said Kendall.

Founder of Kendall Academy in Ypsilanti, MI, Kendall has won the Michigan Senior Open (2007, 2009) as well as the Michigan PGA Senior Championship (2007.) This summer he teamed up with amateur Casey Baker to win the Michigan PGA State Pro-Am while later qualifying for the National Senior PGA Championship. Kendall has qualified for the PGA Professional National Championship 10 times and the Senior PGA Professional National Championship five times.

Head golf professional at Cadillac Country Club for 17 years prior to opening Kendall Academy, Kendall won the Michigan PGA Pro-Pro three times and was twice named Northern Michigan Player of the Year.

Kendall is also an acclaimed golf instructor, twice being named Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year (2000, 2004) and is ranked among the top ten teachers in the state by Golf Digest. He founded Kendall Academy at Miles of Golf in 1996 and it’s now one of the top instructional centers in the state, boasting ten highly ranked PGA teaching professionals and with satellite centers in Auburn Hills and Grand Rapids.

In addition to his playing and teaching skills, Kendall has been a leader in the Michigan PGA, serving as its President in 2008-09, after being honored as its Professional of the Year in 1990 and 2006. Last year, Kendall received the Michigan PGA’s Horton Smith Award for his “outstanding contributions to professional education.”

Kendall and his wife Karen live in Saline. They have two sons, Bob and Scott.

The Jackson Golf Hall of Fame ceremonies take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Cascades Manor House. Past inductees include Dave and Mike Hill, Elaine Crosby, and Steve Maddalena.
