WGA TO FORMALLY ADMINISTER THE CADDIE HALL OF FAME

GOLF, IL – The Western Golf Association will formally take over administration of The Caddie Hall of Fame, an exhibit that highlights the rich tradition and importance of caddying by recognizing notable junior caddies, caddie administrators and career caddies.

The Caddie Hall of Fame was an effort begun in 1999 by the Professional Caddies Association and founded by Dennis and Laura Cone. The exhibit will be housed at the WGA headquarters in Golf, Ill.

“The Western Golf Association is committed to continuing this important venture,” says Mike Maher, WGA’s caddie and scholarship development manager. “The organization will help raise awareness of the Caddie Hall of Fame, ultimately ensuring its long-term success.”

A committee comprised of WGA Directors and staff, in addition to Dennis Cone and another PCA official, will review nominations and make the final decisions on inductees. Individuals may qualify in one of the following categories.

Junior caddies – prominent individuals who have used their caddie experiences as a stepping stone for future success.

Caddie administrators – individuals whose involvement with caddies and caddie programs bettered the lives of many.

Career caddies – individuals who became prominent caddies and used caddying to better others.

Founder Dennis Cone was inducted into the Hall of Fame during a special ceremony held during the week of the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill. In attendance was comedian Tom Dreesen, a regular on The Tonight Show, who also spoke about how caddying changed his life.

Founded in 1899, the Western Golf Association is a recognized leader in promoting the use of caddies. It also conducts championships for professional and amateur golfers and oversees the Evans Scholars Foundation, which awards college scholarships to caddies with limited financial means.

The WGA is a driving force in the game, a respected charitable cause for thousands of supporters and a distinguished leader in the nation’s golf community.
