Far Hills, N.J. – The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced that the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces will be recognized at the 2012 U.S. Senior Open at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich. On Wednesday, July 11, the USGA is extending free admission to all active duty, retired and Reserve military personnel, while U.S. Army Detroit Arsenal associates will be eligible for a special ticket offer for the championship rounds, July 12-15. On July 11, the flagstick on the 16th hole will feature the U.S. flag to recognize the military personnel’s service to our country.

“The USGA is pleased to honor our nation’s military at the U.S. Senior Open,” said Tim Flaherty, the USGA’s senior director of the U.S. Senior Open Championship. “The U.S. Army’s Detroit Arsenal has more than 8,500 associates, and we are proud to assist in a program that provides quality of life for soldiers, their families and civilian employees. We appreciate the efforts of those soldiers, whether on active duty or retired, as well as those working behind the scenes as civilians in military work.”

“The people at the USGA and Indianwood Golf and Country Club are doing great things for this area,” said Major General Michael J. Terry, commanding general of the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. “I appreciate the recognition they are giving our soldiers, and I am proud that we at the Detroit Arsenal are able to support this event.”

The 448-yard 16th hole at Indianwood Golf and Country Club will be designated a “military hole” during Wednesday’s practice round, and the flagstick will fly the Stars and Stripes. When the players reach the putting surface, a caddie will deliver the flagstick to a local soldier stationed at the green. He or she will keep the flag off the ground until a caddie replaces the flagstick when the group leaves the green.

In addition to offering free admission for all military service personnel on July 11, the USGA and Indianwood Golf and Country Club have extended a special ticket package for any day of the championship to all U.S. Army Detroit Arsenal associates.

The Detroit Arsenal, located 30 miles south of Indianwood in Warren, Mich., features U.S. Army business units such as the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command and Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). Nearly 1,500 scientists, researchers and engineers working in a new 30,000-square-foot laboratory are collaborating with the auto industry to provide the best ground vehicles for American troops.

The general public can still purchase tickets for the 2012 U.S. Senior Open Championship. Tickets are available at www.2012ussenioropen.com. Parking is included with the ticket purchase. Children 17 and under will be admitted for free with a ticketed adult.
