Local Club Seeks Director of Golf

Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club in Grosse Ile, MI is seeking a General Manager/ Director of Golf. The following is a job description and information on who to contact regarding application for the position: 

The General Manager/Director of Golf Operations will report directly to the Board of Directors regarding all aspects of the Country Club operation, including but not limited to membership recruitment and retention, supervision of golf course operations, supervision of Greens and Grounds Department, Golf Operations, Pro Shop, Food and Beverage and all other facets of the Club.   The GM/DGO will have direct reporting responsibility from all Managers and will work collectively with Managers in the departments of Finance/Controller, Greens and Grounds, Chef and Kitchen Operations, Golf Professional and Pro Shop operations.  The GM/DGO will have primary responsibility in budget formation, attending all required meetings, including but not limited to Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Membership Committee and other relevant meetings.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the creation and implementation of all service standards and processes, while providing energized and visible leadership for key managers, staff, committees, and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will be a true leader with exceptional club management experience, knowledge, and skills. The candidate should have demonstrated skills in food and beverage operations and a proven record of strong operational management with great attention to detail.

The Club is seeking a take-charge consummate professional who will yield tangible bottom-line results.   In addition, we are seeking someone with a warm and friendly personality who will have a genuine desire to interact with the membership in a professional and hospitable manner.  This individual will be the face of the organization, control and maintain the website and social media, and direct the overall operation, both presently and in terms of long range planning for the future of the Club.  The ideal candidate will have strong marketing skills and a proven record of membership recruitment, satisfaction, and interaction.  Visibility, integrity, energy, and creativity are of the utmost importance to the Club, along with essential interpersonal communication skills.

Preference will be given to qualified applicants with ties to the metro Detroit area.  The ideal candidate will have a sincere appreciation for the beauty and charm of Grosse Ile and the downriver area.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and expertise. Terms and conditions of employment will be negotiated.

The Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club is located in the Township of Grosse Ile and was originally chartered in 1919. The Country Club is located on an island in the Detroit River, approximately ten miles south of Detroit.

The golf course is an 18 hole championship golf course designed by renowned golf architect Donald Ross. The Club has hosted many notable competitions including the Western Amateur Golf Championship in 1968, the Michigan Match Play Championship in 1989, and most recently, the Michigan Amateur Championship.

In addition to its championship golf course, the Club has a swimming pool and hosts a swim team that participates in the district swimming competitions.

The Club has four tennis courts, two of which are clay, and two recently renovated asphalt courts.

The Clubhouse facilities were completely renovated in 1995 and include two ballrooms, formal dining room, casual dining room, private locker room, bars, and complete men’s and women’s locker rooms. In addition, the Club features a golf services building, newly constructed golf course maintenance building, and other like kind structures.

The Club is home to many area competitions and is the host of the major charitable golf events throughout the downriver communities. The Club is well known for hosting such events as the Budd Lynch Celebrity Golf Tournament benefiting The Guidance Center, the Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Golf Classic, and other like kind charitable events.

The Club is well known as the cultural and social hub of downriver. From honors convocations to charity events, the Club has hosted the premier social events throughout the downriver communities since its inception.  Currently, the Club has in excess of 300 members including golf and social classifications.
