Today at Mt. Pleasant Country Club, Minjoo Lee of Clarkston, cruised to victory in the 30th Michigan Girls Junior State Championship, by defeating Elizabeth Ecker 5 & 3 in the final match. Yesterday, Lee had to come from behind and extend the match two extra sudden-death holes to defeat Melissa Beurmann in the semi-finals. Lee describes herself as a short hitter but accurate, and Mt. Pleasant suited her game quite well. Lee commented that the course was very pretty, but tight, which didnt seem to bother her. In the final match Lee went 5 up very early, and was able to ride that lead to victory. Lee claims that her putting was what saved her on the difficult greens. Lee plans on challenging some of the best women players in the state in the 92nd Michigan Womens Amateur to be played at Walnut Hills Country Club in East Lansing, July 7-11.
