FALL COLLEGE GOLF RECAP

There are over 100 GAM members currently playing NCAA golf. A few of them captured individual tournament titles during the fall season, while others are making an impact on their teams despite being just true freshmen. Here are a few notable collegiate golf accomplishments from GAM members in fall of 2013:

Division 1

Joey Garber (Georgia/Petoskey): Currently ranked third in the Golfweek/Sagarin Individual Rankings, the Bulldogs’ captain took home the individual title at The Invitational at The Ocean Course with a three-round total of 9-under-par 207. His second round of 6-under-par 66 there featured 10 birdies. In addition, he came in second in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, fourth in the Carpet Capital Collegiate and 19th in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship. Garber finished the fall with a scoring average of 69.75.

Liz Nagel (Michigan State/DeWitt): The reigning stroke-play champion of the Michigan Women’s Amateur, Nagel notched top-five finishes in three of Michigan State’s four tournaments during the fall, including a first-place finish at Michigan State’s home tournament, the Mary Fossum Invitational. Nagel has a stroke-average of 72.42 and is currently ranked No. 19 in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Individual Rankings.

Henry Do (North Carolina/Ypsilanti): Do played in three events for the Tar Heels, and shared medalist honors at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. For the fall, the freshman carried a stroke average of 72.25, lowest on the North Carolina squad.

Lindsay Lammers (Detroit/Milan): Lammers finished in the top 10 in each of the four tournaments she played in over the fall. Her best finish was a third-place showing at the Dayton Fall Invitational and for 12 rounds she averaged 75.89, best on the Titans.

Max Kollin (Indiana/Farmington Hills): Kollin was one of four Hoosiers to play in all five of the team’s tournaments during the fall. He is currently averaging 75.06 strokes-per-round and has a pair of top-20 finishes.

Carson Castellani (Michigan State/Okemos): Castellani was one of three Spartans to compete in all six tournaments for the Green and White during the fall season. He is currently averaging 75.22 and his top finish was a tie for 19th at the Gopher Invitational.

Reed Hrynewich (Michigan/Muskegon): Just halfway through his freshman season, Reed Hrynewich has already competed in four tournaments with the Wolverines. His best finishes thus far are ties for 45th at the Erin Hills Collegiate and The Invitational at The Ocean Course

Evan Bowser (Oakland/Dearborn): Bowser has played in all four of the Golden Grizzlies’ tournaments during the fall and leads the team with a scoring average of 73.4. His best finish was a tie for 7th at the Cleveland State Invitational.

Hailey Hrynewich (Ohio University/Muskegon): As a freshman for the Bobcats, Hrynewich competed in all four of the squad’s events and notched a pair of top-25 finishes.

Otto Black (Toledo/Pinckney): Black played in all six of the Rockets’ tournaments during the fall, culminating in a tie for seventh place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. He is second on his team with a scoring average of 74.3.

Julia Montgomery (Oakland/Utica): Montgomery competed in all four of the Golden Grizzlies’ fall tournaments. She posted a scoring average of 79.5 and her best finish was a 19th place showing at the Redbird Invitational.

Jennifer Elsholz (Toledo/Grand Rapids): Elsholz played in the Rockets’ five events during the fall season. She notched three top-15 finishes, including a third-place finish at the Rocket Classic

Christine Meier (Michigan State/Rochester Hills): The reigning Michigan Women’s Amateur champion has competed in three events for the Spartans and has a stroke average of 77.44.

Emmie Pietila (Tennessee/Brighton): Emmie Pietila, a redshirt freshman, competed in all four of the Lady Volunteers’ fall tournaments. Her best finish was a tie for 25th at the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

Hannah Pietila (Tennessee/Brighton): Hannah Pietila, a true freshman, has also played in all four of Tennessee’s fall tournaments. She averaged 74.91 and her best performance was a tie for 16th in the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

Emmanuel Petrich (Bethune-Cookman/Grand Blanc): Petrich registered top-15 finishes in five of the seven tournaments the Wildcats competed in during the fall season. He averaged 73.4 over 20 competitive rounds and his best finish was a tie for third at the Tiger Fall Invitational.

Sam Weatherhead (Michigan State/Grand Rapids): In his freshman season with Michigan State, Weatherhead has competed in five events for the Spartans. His top finish so far is a tie for 19th at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, which the Spartans won overall.

Kaitlyn Watkins (Western Michigan/Frankenmuth): Watkins competed in four events for the Broncos during the fall, averaging 80.00 and finishing in the top half of the field in three of four tournaments.

Kimberly Dinh (Wisconsin/Midland): Dinh participated in all four of the Badgers’ fall tournaments, with her best finish being a tie for 10th at the Cougar Classic.

Sean Friel (Michigan State/Rochester Hills): Friel is the only Spartan to notch two top-10 finishes during the fall portion of the schedule, a tie for ninth at the Wolverine Intercollegiate and a tie for fifth at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. He is second on the team with a 74.93 scoring average.

Andrew Yeager (Michigan/Grand Rapids): Yeager played in three events for the Wolverines during the fall, with his best finish being a tie for 16th at the Wolverine Intercollegiate.

Kyle Rodes (Eastern Michigan/Plymouth): Rodes competed in five tournaments for the Eagles during the fall, compiling a stroke average of 77.00. His best finish was a tie for 37th at the Firestone Invitational.

Kelsey Murphy (Eastern Michigan/Plymouth): Murphy was in the lineup for all five of the Eagles’ events during the fall. She registered a tie for 14th at the Mary Fossum Invitational and a tie for third at The Preview.

Mark Foster (Oakland/Davison): Foster played in all four tournaments for the Golden Grizzlies over the fall. His stroke average is 75.2 and his best finish was 27th place at the Cleveland State Invitational.

Kyle Gaines (Detroit/Oxford): Gaines played in all four of the Titans’ events during the fall season. His best finish was a tie for 28th at the Wolverine Intercollegiate and his stroke average currently stands at 75.00.

Aaron Knutson (Detroit/Lake Orion): Knutson was in the lineup for all four of the Titans’ tournaments for the fall, and notched a top-10 finish with a tie for 9th at the Cleveland State Invitational.

Sarah Thompson (Detroit/Canton): Thompson played in three events for the Titans during the fall, averaging 81.00. Her best finish was a tie for fifth in the Dayton Fall Invitational.

Emma Salata (Western Michigan/Ann Arbor): Salata leads the Broncos in scoring average through the fall season at 79.64. Her best finish was a tie for 10th at the Rocket Classic.

Nick Dennis (Loyola/Waterford): Dennis averaged 72.8 in 16 competitive rounds with the Ramblers during the fall. He claimed medalist honors at the Cleveland State Invitational and finished second at the Green Bay Invitational

Division 2

Jared Dalga (Barry/Grand Rapids): Dalga has top-10 finishes in three of the four tournaments he competed in during the fall. He finished tied for third at the Brickyard Crossing Intercollegiate, and tied for eighth at the Guy Harvey Invitational, as well as the Otter Invitational. His scoring average for the season sits at 72.17.

Derek Barribeau (Grand Valley State/Brighton): Barribeau captured medalist honors at the Lakers’ first tournament of the season, the Arendsen Invitational. For the fall season, he earned two top-20 finishes and recorded a scoring average of 76.67.

Chris Cunningham (Grand Valley State/Milford): Cunningham played in six events for the Lakers during the fall, winning the Midwest Fall Regional and finishing tied for 10th at the Midwest Fall Invitational. He has a stroke average of 75.79.

Alex LaSerra (Wayne State/Jackson): Alex LaSerra posted consecutive top-five finishes to open the season with a tie for fourth at the LSSU Invitational and a third-place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate. Through six tournaments, he has a scoring average of 74.14.

Tyler LaSerra (Wayne State/Jackson): Tyler LaSerra claimed an individual title at the John Piper Intercollegiate. In addition, he posted two more top-10 finishes with a tie for ninth at the LSSU Invitational and a tie for third at the GLIAC North Invitational.

Wyatt Drost (Saginaw Valley/Charlevoix): After opening the season with a tie for ninth at the LSSU Invitational, Drost closed out the fall with the individual title at the GLIAC Championships at Eagle Eye Golf Club.

Tyler Polulak (Grand Valley State/DeWitt): In six events for the Lakers during the fall, Polulak posted three top-20 finishes, including a tie for third at the Arendsen Invitational.

Jack Rider (Grand Valley State/DeWitt): Rider played in all six events for the Lakers, recording three top-10 finishes in the process. His best showing was a tie for third at the Midwest Fall Regional.

Libby Berens (Ferris State/Zeeland): Berens finished in second place at the Gilda’s Club Laker Invite and a tie for eighth place at Indianapolis Fall Invitational

Ashley Swanson (Ferris/Flushing): Swanson tied for second place at the Ashland Eagle Invitational and tied for fifth place in the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational.

Jordan Andrus (Wayne State/Pinckney): Andrus opened the 2013-14 season with a win at the LSSU Invitational, then followed that up with a fourth place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate. Through six tournaments he has a scoring average of 75.42.

Joel Siegel (Grand Valley State/Sparta): Siegel competed in six events over the fall season, finishing in a tie for seventh in the Arendsen Invitational and a tie for ninth in the GLIAC Championship.

Kelly Hartigan (Grand Valley State/Lake Orion): Hartigan collected a pair of top-10 finishes for the Lakers, a medalist honor at the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational and a tie for ninth at Gilda’s Club Laker Invite.

Gabrielle Shipley (Grand Valley State/Hastings): Shipley had two top-five finishes over the fall, a tie for fifth at Gilda’s Club Laker Invite and a tie for third at Ferris State Bulldog Invitational.

Reid Dean (Wayne State/Fowlerville): Dean posted top-10 finishes in consecutive events in September, a tie for seventh in the John Piper Intercollegiate and a tie for third at the GLIAC North Invitational. His scoring average for the fall is 77.25.

Eric Gandy (Saginaw Valley/Midland): Gandy took home the individual crown at Saginaw Valley’s home tournament, the Cardinal Fall Invitational. He also registered a tie for ninth at the LSSU Invitational.

Micah Skidmore (Saginaw Valley/Saginaw): Skidmore posted three top-10 finishes for the fall with a tie for fourth at the LSSU Invitational, a fourth at the Cardinal Fall Invitational, and a tie for sixth at GLIAC North Invitational

Bruce Eccleton (Northwood/Saginaw): Eccleton earned a trio of top-10 finishes during the fall with a tie for third at the GLIAC Championship, a tie for fifth at the Cardinal Fall Invitational, and a tie for 9th at the GLIAC North Invitational
