A strong spring start for former Michigan Amateur winner Joey Garber has moved him to the No. 1 spot in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Garber, who originally signed with the Wolverines before transferring to Georgia, has a nation leading 69.0 stroke average over the final two rounds of his last five college golf tournaments.
Garber’s surprisingly strong play in 2014 has moved him to the top of the list as a potential Haskins Award winner. That award is given out annually to the best college player and is voted on by the players, coaches, and media.
Winning the Haskins Award would put Garber’s name on the same list as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell and Hunter Mahan, to name a few.
