Crystal Mountain names Jason Farah as Golf Course Superintendent

THOMPSONVILLE, MI – Jason Farah, who played an integral part in preparing the South Course at Oakland Hills Country Club the last time the U.S. Open came to Michigan, has been named the new Golf Course Superintendent at Crystal Mountain.

A graduate of Michigan State University’s renowned Turfgrass Management Program, Farah was an assistant superintendent (North Course) at the time of the 1996 U.S. Open before being named North Course Superintendent in 1997. He has nearly a quarter-century of experience in the industry beginning as a Golf Course Technician at Flint Golf Club (Flint) with stops at Flushing Valley Golf and Country Club (Flushing), Oakland Hills Country Club (Bloomfield Hills) and Crystal Springs Country Club (Caledonia) before spending the last decade as Superintendent at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Freeland, Michigan.

“Crystal Mountain has a strong reputation in this state and across the region for providing a high-quality experience to all its guests,” said Farah. “Managing these two championship courses is a tremendous opportunity but even more exciting are the resources provided me to bring conditions to a new level.”

A member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association and Michigan Turfgrass Foundation, Farah also has a strong pedigree as a leader having helped more than a dozen former employees to assistant or head superintendent positions. On the course, he prides himself on the consistency of the greens under his care. Crystal Mountain is providing the tools to maintain that commitment with a new Tru-Turf Greens Roller, the model used by many PGA Tour stops, that is among the investments made by the resort in preparation for this season.

“It’s very exciting to have someone of his experience, energy and work ethic as a part of our team,” said Brad Dean, Crystal Mountain Director of Golf. “I believe the people who play the Betsie Valley and Mountain Ridge this summer will notice and appreciate Jason’s work and that of his crews, especially on the greens.”

Established in 1956, Crystal Mountain is a family-owned, four-season resort featuring two championship golf courses and a golf school rated Top 25 in America by GOLF magazine.  Located in northwest lower-Michigan, a short drive from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the resort features Michigan’s only alpine slide, an outdoor water playground, Michigan Legacy Art Park, a variety of lodging and dining options, countless year-round activities and kids programs, an IACC-approved conference center, weddings, real estate, Crystal Spa and coming this summer, The Edge Adventure Course.
