May 23, 2014. The Michigan Women’s Golf Association (MWGA) first two-person competition of the season will be held on Saturday, June 7, at Sycamore Hills Golf Course, 48787 North Avenue in Macomb, Mich. www.sycamorehills.com. 586-598-9500. The 2-Person Four-Ball will be played on the north and west courses beginning with a 2pm shotgun start. Teams for the handicapped stroke play competition may consist of two women or a man and woman. Women will play from 5070 yards, CR 68.3, SR 119; men from 6076 yards, CR 69.8, SR 122.
Each team member will play his or her own ball. The lower of the two players’ gross and net scores on each hole will be added and recorded as the team’s scores. At the end of the competition, prizes will be awarded to the lowest gross and net team scores in each handicap division. After golf, while winners are being determined, players may enjoy a 50/50 raffle as well as good food and beverages.
The competition is open to amateur players. A current USGA Index is required; if not available, golfers will play at scratch or as determined by the MWGA Handicap Director. The fee for golf and cart is $63 member/male partner, $83 non-member. An additional, optional fee of $10 per person is required in advance for skins, closest to the flagstick and chip-in contests. Registration is available online at www.mwgolf.org. Deadline for entry is May 28, 2014. Direct questions to: mwgapayment@mwgolf.org or 248-342-8227.
The second upcoming event, a first-time offering for MWGA, is the Chip and Sip Social. This will be held on Saturday, June 14 from 1pm to 4pm at Lyon Oaks Golf Course, 52251 Pontiac Trail in Wixom, Mich. www.destinationoakland.com. 248-437-1488. Debbie Williams-Hoak, LPGA Teaching Professional, will conduct a putting and chipping clinic, after which beer, wine, cheese and crackers will be offered.
This fun event is an excellent opportunity to get a chipping lesson from an LPGA Teaching Pro at a very reasonable price in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Then while enjoying some drinks and nibbles, participants will meet members of the Michigan Women’s Golf Association, who will want to know what experiences attendees would like to gain from the game of golf. It will be a great way to learn about this women’s golf association founded in 1986 and open to amateur women golfers of all skill levels. The MWGA members present will share some information about what the organization has to offer, why they joined, what makes the association tick, and what are some favorite formats they enjoy playing. To learn a little before hand about MWGA, visit www.mwgolf.org.
The nominal fee for the Chip and Sip Social is $25 for one person or $40 for two and includes two beverages per person plus the cheese and crackers. Additional beverages may be purchased as well as other food choices.
