CORAL GABLES, Fla. — With traditional tougher final-round pins and strong afternoon winds elevating scores across the tournament field, the University of Michigan women’s golf team closed today (Wednesday, March 4) posting a 307 team total to finish with an 892 event total and drop four spots into a tie for 10th at Miami’s Hurricane Invitational held at the Biltmore Golf Course.

The Wolverines opened the three-day event (Monday, March 2) cracking the 300 barrier for the sixth time this season with a 298 first-round team total. A career-best even-par 71, which included five birdies, from junior Catherine Petershighlighted Monday’s play as the Maize and Blue positioned itself tied for 11th.

The second round has been moving day all season for the Wolverines, and Tuesday’s (March 3) round was no different. U-M recorded the second-lowest team total in program history with a three-over 287. The freshman duo of Megan Kimand Kathy Lim paced play as Kim fired a career-best four-under 67 — tying for the program’s second-lowest individual round of all-time — and Lim followed with a one-over 72.

Starting off the back nine, Kim finished six birdies and two bogeys during her career-best 67, while Lim got off to a red-hot start, playing her first nine holes at six-under par thanks to six birdies. Lim was unable to maintain her momentum as she was seven over on the front side, finishing one over on the day. Sophomore Grace Choi helped U-M move up to sixth place and break 290 for the first time in five years adding in her two-over 73.

With winds picking up as well as tough pin locations, scores rose throughout the 16-team field during today’s round. Kim and Peters carded rounds of 76, while a 77 from Lim had U-M close with a 307 and drop four spots to 10th with an 892 total.

Individually, Kim led U-M for the second time this season, tying for 27th and tying a career best at 221 (78-67-76). In her first start of the season, Peters tied for 33rd with a career-best 222 (71-75-76). Choi’s tie for 48th (74-73-78/225) helped U-M place three among the top 50 for the fourth time this season. Other finishes included Lim’s tie for 52nd at 226 (77-72-77), senior Lauren Grogan‘s tie for 74th at 233 (76-78-79), and freshman Emily White, who played as an individual, tying for 52nd with a career-best 226 (75-74-77).

The Wolverines will return to tournament play after a 10-day break in Ann Arbor. The Maize and Blue will travel out west to Tucson, Arizona, Monday and Tuesday (March 16-17) to play in Arizona’s Wildcat Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Sewailo Golf Club.
