HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — Junior Wil Wittmann and sophomore Kyle Gaines (Oxford) were both named All-Horizon League on Thursday night at the annual championship banquet at the Mission Inn Resort.

For Wittmann, it marks the third-straight year that he has earned a conference honor as he was the HL Newcomer of the Year in 2013 and All-HL last season, while Gaines was tabbed All-Conference for the first time in his career.

Gaines tops the Titans and is 10th in the Horizon League with a career-low 74.06 average. He has finished in the top 10 in four of Detroit’s seven events with his best effort taking fourth at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.

He has set or tied his career low in a round, 36-hole and 54-hole tournament on the year. He shot a 2-under 70 in the season-opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. He had a 2-over 73 and an even-71 for a career-best 143 at the Cleveland State Invitational and tied his career mark with a 220 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.

Wittmann is just behind Gaines for the team lead and a few strokes shy of his career best as he is 11th in the Horizon League with a 74.28. He has picked it up in the spring carding a 73.40 in UDM’s three tournaments.

He has five top-20 finishes and one top-10 effort, tying for 10th at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. He posted a season-low 216 at the Bobby Nichols Invitational, where he tallied back-to-back 3-under 69’s.

The selections mark the 39th and 40th All-League accolades in Titan history as well as the sixth time Detroit has had multiple All-League honorees.

The Titans will look for their eighth Horizon League Championship in school history as the event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., tomorrow.
