MAY 2-3 BIG WEEKEND FOR MWGA Golf:
Annual Meeting & Spring Scramble, Golden Fox, Plymouth
Match Play League Opener, Links of Novi, Novi
Yvette Gagnon of Bloomfield Hills Scores Hole-in-One
FARMINGTON, MICH. – May 5, 2015. The Michigan Women’s Golf Association started their 2015 season with
the 29th Annual Meeting and 4-Woman Scramble at the Golden Fox Golf Club in Plymouth, Mich. on
Saturday, May 2. Francine Pegues, President, discussed the state of the association, noting membership holds
steady at approximately 225, the association remains stable even though an $8,000 deficit is projected for 2015,
and the successful MWGA/LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Program will expand again this year. A continuing goal of
MWGA is increasing membership. To help accomplish this, a Membership Outreach Committee has been formed.
Monica Oliver, Treasurer, reviewed the 2014 Association financial statement, and Cynthia Pinkard,
Adviser/Webmaster/MPL Coordinator, touched on some of the 2015 competition schedule highlights. Barbara
Porter, Juniors Director, shared details about the 2015 Girls Golf Program plans. The program is offering
professional instruction to girls ages 7-17 at three venues: 6/23 – 8/18 Beginners Program at Rouge Park GC,
6/19 – 8/18 Advanced Program at Chandler Park GC and 6/23 – 8/18 Beginners Program at Belle Isle Golf
Center, a new location added this year. For information about the GGP, contact Barbara at 248-231-4221 or
[email protected].
Next on the agenda was Joan Cleland, an MWGA member and Committee Chairperson for the Michigan
Women’s Golf Summit, of which MWGA was a proud sponsor. Joan reviewed highlights of the April 25 wellattended
Summit at Suburban Collection Showplace Diamond Center in Novi, and noted the small profit will be
carried over for a future event.
Shirley McClain, Membership Director and co-chair with Judy Petrere of the GoFundMe campaign initiated to
hopefully defray or even alleviate the projected 2015 deficit, shared with members in attendance how to go to the
site to make a tax deductible donation: www.gofundme.com/mwga-campaign.
Wrapping up the program, Barb Coury, Vice President, presented the Golfer of the Year and Player of the
Year Awards. The Michigan Women’s Golf Association 2014 Golfer of the Year and winner of the Sara Wold
Trophy was Shelly Weiss of Southfield with 1612 points.

The highlight of the 2015 Match Play League opener on May 3 at Links of Novi was the hole-in-one
scored by Yvette Gagnon of Bloomfield Hills. Yvette used her 6 iron to ace the 120-yard par 3 4th hole on the
West course for her second hole-in-one. “I hit a clean shot to the three-tiered, elevated green and heard it hit the
pin, but didn’t see it go in,” said Yvette. A playing partner did witness it going into the cup and when Yvette got up
to the green, sure enough her ball was in the hole.

MWGA handicap director. The fee for 18-holes and cart is $63 member/male partner, $83 non-member. An
additional $10/day optional, paid-in-advance fee is required to participate in games such as skins, closest to the
