KNXOVILLE, Tenn. — The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced Wednesday that sophomores Emmie Pietila and Lucia Polo were named to the Division I All-Region Team. Both finished in the top 10 at the San Antonio Regional, where they helped lead Tennessee to its 12th NCAA Championship berth.
The All-Region teams are based on top ten finishers and ties at each of the NCAA Regional Championships.
“This is a well-deserved honor for both Emmie and Lucia,” head coach Judi Pavon said. “The regional fields are so tough and finishing in the top 10 is a great accomplishment.”
Pietila posted a career-low 209 in the Regional tournament to finish in fourth place. Her 54-hole score ties for the fifth lowest score by an individual in program history. Pietila finished all three rounds under par, including two days with a 69.
Polo carded a sixth place finish with a score of 212, also a career best. For the first time in her collegiate career, Polo broke 70. In the first day of play, she posted a 69. All three days, she shot under par.
Both ladies will compete in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, which begin this Friday, May 22.
