Job Description: The Member Services Associate reports to
the Director of Membership & Communications and is responsible for helping
individual members and member clubs troubleshoot various problems. This
position involves working in the GAM data base; copy editing; assisting at
trade shows; writing; and customer service.

 

About the Golf Association of Michigan: The Golf Association
of Michigan (GAM) founded in 1919, is a regional amateur golf association
serving 475 member clubs and 55,000 individual golfers. Its mission is to
“promote, preserve and serve golf in Michigan”. The GAM is licensed by the United
States Golf Association to administer the USGA Course Rating system and the
USGA Handicap System.  In addition, the
GAM administers local USGA Qualifiers for all of its Men’s national
championships.  The GAM hosts over 25
state wide championships including the Michigan Amateur for both men and women,
Senior Amateur for men and women and the Junior Amateurs for boys and girls. In
addition, the GAM hosts a range of Net events for golfers of all skill
levels.  These include the GAM State
Scramble, GAM Net Team and the GAM Net Amateur. 
The GAM has actively sought to develop new benefit programs to attract
and retain new members. Programs including Swing & Save, GAM Golf Days and
complimentary subscriptions to Golf Digest are all seen as key approaches to
provide added value to a golfer’s membership beyond a golf handicap.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

1.      
Troubleshooting various membership issues for
individual members and member clubs.

2.      
Managing the GAM High School Golf membership
program.

3.      
Assisting at the West Michigan Golf Show and
Novi Golf Show as well as other events that may arise.

4.      
Capturing and editing video for GAM social media
and web site.

5.      
Working in the GAM data base to manage member
and member club profiles.

6.      
Coordinating Golf Digest, Self and GolfWeek subscriptions
to ensure all members are receiving their subscriptions.

7.      
Writing articles and blogs for GAM social media
and web site.

8.      
Assisting with production of the annual course
directory and other membership and marketing materials.

9.      
Helping individual members navigate the GAM web
site.

10.  
Training club administrators to use the GAM
software.

 

Qualifications:

1.      
Excellent telephone demeanor. The ability to
talk to many different types of people and troubleshoot a variety of problems.

2.      
Strong computer skills and proficiency with data
bases and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.).

3.      
Strong organizational skills.

4.      
At least 2 years of experience with copy editing
/ proofreading.

5.      
Strong oral and written communication skills.

6.      
Experience in video production and editing using
IMovie or Movie Maker pro is helpful.

7.      
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related
experience.

8.      
General knowledge of the golf industry.
