Kevin Helm, Executive Director,
PGA, Michigan Section:
“As one of the key allied golf associations in Michigan we feel a responsibility to lead and provide support for this exciting and important project at Ferris State University. We have been so fortunate to have had so many Ferris PGM alums serve our Section and contribute to our success over the years. We feel it is important to help Ferris State continue to educate and train the PGA Professionals of tomorrow.
The founders and keepers of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame have done a terrific job over the years, but the one major component missing was a home where all of the great inductees could be recognized and appreciated. Having this beautiful space to display and recognize the greats of the game in Michigan is a wonderful opportunity.
We are very proud that this gift will help create a space for teaching and growing the game. Not only will that allow many kids to learn and develop a love for the game of golf, it will also allow the PGM program at Ferris to continue to train its’ students and equip them with the tools to continue that important task wherever they end up being employed after graduation.
The Michigan PGA has been shaped and influenced by numerous Ferris PGM alumni. The Ferris program is widely respected and has alums working all over the world, but certainly the Michigan Section has benefited more than any other Section by having so many more alums choose to spend all or a portion of their career here in Michigan.”
Adam Ikamas, CGCS, Executive Director, Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association:
“Our board of directors approved the $25,000 gift because we think it is pretty important that all aspects of Michigan Golf be represented.
Our 700 members are the people behind the scenes who help make golf possible in Michigan. We are trained in soil science, pest management and nature management.
Because our golf course superintendents manage areas where nature is abundant, we are able to preserve the turf golfers play on, and maintain the biggest natural asset, the golf course itself.
As a member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame board, I have heard the talk for years of finding a permanent home, and we have found a great fit with Ferris State University.”
David Graham, Executive Director, Golf Association of Michigan:
“The Golf Association of Michigan is a proud partner and sponsor of the new Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
I believe the new Michigan Golf Hall of Fame is a significant step forward for golf in Michigan. There is no better place for the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame to have a permanent place than Ferris State University, home of the first Professional Golf Management program in the nation.
Ferris State has extraordinary experience in curating and operating museums on campus. They have exciting new digital technology capability to tell the story of Michigan golf over the years and into the future, while displaying the artifacts and memorabilia of our greatest golfers.
I urge everyone who loves Michigan golf to consider making a gift to the campaign. You can have a positive impact on the health and future of the game of golf in our state for years to come.”
