MICHIGAN WOMEN’S GOLF SUMMIT – Saturday, April 22, 2017

DIAMOND CENTER – SUBURBAN COLLECTION SHOWPLACE – NOVI, MI

By: Janina Jacobs, International Golf and Travel Writer

Farmington, Mich., March 23, 2017 – Headlining the 2017 Michigan Women’s Golf Summit, sponsored by Treetops Resort, will be LPGA Professional, Entrepreneur, and Keynote speaker Debbie O’Connell along with the Michigan Premiere of ‘The Founders’ film, which chronicles the creation of the LPGA Tour. This film is unique, not in the context of 13 women combining forces to play professional golf, but reveals instead how they overcame huge obstacles in a time when women’s sports or entrepreneurship were not the norm.

In keeping with the Founders’ spirit, this year’s Summit, ‘Golf – A Game for All Generations’ will offer opportunities for both novice and experienced golfers of all ages to participate in a variety of skill development, fitness and conditioning, and informational Breakout Sessions. These include: ‘Golf as a Business Tool’, ‘Junior Golf Resources’, ‘What Women Golfers Want’ and ‘Playing Golf with Confidence in Charity Outings’. In other skill building Breakouts, LPGA and PGA teaching professionals Debbie Williams-Hoak and Tami Bealert will conduct long and short game instruction and course management; young Michigan PGA professionals Chelsea Guoynes and Stephanie Jennings will teach beginners how to get started in the game. Title Sponsor Treetops Resort’s golf professional Joe Charles will provide lessons all day in the Exhibitor area.

The Michigan Section PGA is sponsoring a morning Leadership Panel Discussion keeping the theme ‘Golf – A Game for All Generations’ front and center, with Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Joan Garety moderating. Panelists include O’Connell and women representing Michigan business, the Michigan PGA, and area golf associations:  Francine Pegues, Stephanie Jennings, Kate Moore, Susan Smiley, and Chelsea Guoynes.

Registration for the Summit is $60 and includes Continental breakfast, plated lunch, all activities, movie premiere and afterglow reception with cash bar. To attend only the film premiere, sponsored by the Golf Association of Michigan, and afterglow, sponsored by the Michigan PGA, is $15. Registration and information are both available at: https://2017mwgs.evenbrite.com. Sign-up deadline is April 15. Some Sponsorships and Exhibitor tables are still available. Exhibitors can contact Laura Winch, [email protected]. For sponsorship information, contact Janina Jacobs, [email protected]

The 2017 Women’s Golf Summit is the fifth since 1995 and is organized by several prominent women in Michigan golf and leading women’s golf associations, all noted here.
