Max was one of 80 junior golfers competing in the popular age group competition on the Sunday before
the 2017 Masters Tournament by coming out on top at the local, sub-regional,
and regional qualifiers that took place from May to September 2016.

  Drive, Chip, and Putt
was founded as a joint initiative by the Masters Tournament, the United States
Golf Association, and the PGA of America to help build interest in golf among
boys and girls ages 7-15. The Golf Association of Michigan and the Michigan PGA Section administered the local and sub-regional competitions as part of their affiliations with the USGA and the PGA of America.

Max, 9, won the 7-9 boys competition at The
Moors in Portage, then won again in the sub-regional event at Battle Creek
Country Club before taking the regional finals at Medinah Country Club in
suburban Chicago and punching his ticket to Augusta.
