ANN ARBOR— The field is now set for Tuesday’s (May 16) Great Lakes Shootout at Travis Pointe Country Club that will determine an exemption to play in the LPGA Volvik Championship, May 25-28.
Six of the top former Big Ten players currently on the Symetra Tour’s Volvik Race for the Card money list along with one current collegiate golfer from Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Wayne State, Michigan State and Michigan, plus one at-large player chosen by the tournament, will compete in the Shootout. The players are:
SYMETRA TOUR PLAYERS
– Lindsey McPherson, Liz Nagel, Allyssa Ferrell, Christine Meier (Michigan State)
– Rachel Rohanna, Emma Jandel (Ohio State)
COLLEGIATE PLAYERS
– Brooke Sharpe (Detroit Mercy)
– Chloe L. Guschewski (Wayne State)
– Kelsey Murphy (Eastern Michigan)
– Sarah Burnham (Michigan State)
– Emily White (Michigan)
AT-LARGE PLAYER
-Sarah Hoffman (Grand Valley State)
Hoffman, who received an exemption last year from the tournament sponsor Volvik for the LPGA Volvik Championship, is a Saline (Mich.) native and familiar face at Travis Pointe.
The format for the Great Lakes Shootout will be nine holes of stroke play followed by a three-hole elimination competition for the one tournament exemption playing spot. The top four scores from the stroke play will advance to the hole-by-hole elimination on holes 16, 17 and 18.
The competition will be conducted by officials from the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM).
The golfers will tee it up for the nine-hole stroke play at Travis Pointe beginning at 11 am with the three-hole elimination starting at approximately 1 pm.
