COURSE OF THE WEEK: Copper Hills Offers 367 Acres of ScenicViews

OXFORD – Copper Hills Golf Club is a breathtaking
semi-private golf course that offers 367 acres of beautiful nature and wildlife
encounters with deer, birds, turtles and much more.

Designed and built by Curtis Wright in the late 1990s, the
course was awarded No. 1 best newly designed course by The Detroit News upon
its completion. Wright always had the dream of building his own golf course, so
he worked and saved until he was able to turn his dream into a reality. He favored
the 367-acre parcel that now hosts Copper Hills because of its unique terrain
that included a huge rolling hill, marshes and jungle-like conditions.

Wright’s wife, Donna, is the one who named the golf course
while enjoying a cool autumn walk with her husband. Once they reached the highest
point of their property, Donna noticed the copper hue of the forest they were in,
and thus the name “Copper Hills” was born. Donna also worked alongside Curtis
in the development of Copper Hills as one of the first geothermal communities.

The three nines were named after the unique terrain and are appropriately
called: The Hill, The Marsh and The Jungle. Wright started building Copper
Hills Golf Club in 1995 and opened The Hill course in April of 1997.  The Marsh course followed in July of 1997,
and The Jungle course opened in June of 1999.

Sadly, Curtis Wright passed away in late 2016, but he left
behind a golf course that was meticulously designed and has been a favorite of
golfers in the area since its inception.

The 27 holes of championship golf with five sets of tees
measuring from 4,673 yards to 6,734 yards (for 18 holes) have something for
every golfer. The Hill course is well-known for offering the highest course
elevation in southeast Michigan.

Copper Hills is a golf course on which the golfer keeps a
phone or camera ready to capture the scenic views around every hole.

Now under new management, the Copper Hills Team has kept very
busy making several upgrades and changes to an already outstanding course.

Copper Hills has been rated as a top 10 public course in
Michigan by Golf Digest and was rated in the top 100 courses in the United
States by Golf for Women Magazine.

The staff at Copper Hills makes it well known that their goal
has remained constant; “to provide you with a challenging golfing experience
coupled with exceptional customer service in a tranquil setting.”

As a club, they are proud of what Curtis Wright created and
are honored to carry his legacy forward, ensuring that Copper Hills continues
to offer golf with an expansive up north feel to it while staying close to
home.
