MACOMB – Keeping
the ball out of the Clinton River that winds through Burning Tree Golf &
Country Club’s course will be important as the 14th Michigan Women’s Senior
Amateur presented by Sullivan Travel plays out over the next two days.
Many of the top
senior women golfers in the state are divided by handicap into five flights for
this tournament, and they will be working to keep their golf balls dry as GAM
players often have in the many tournaments hosted previously by the club.
Burning Tree, established
in 1958 with the clubhouse upgraded and updated clubhouse in 2008, features a
6,140-yard course that demands accuracy. The Lou Powers design has tree-lined
fairways, white sand bunkers and the river comes into play on six holes,
including No. 18, which is on a peninsula green.
The Golf Course
Superintendent is Dale Bauer. Jeff Racher is the golf professional. Learn more

In addition to
having match play brackets, consolation matches are also part of the mix so
that all participants in the tournament are guaranteed play on both days.
Three-time champion
Maureen Whitehead of Charlevoix , two-time champion Sue Campbell of Kalamazoo
and 2009 champion Barb Schmid of Grand Rapids are part of the championship
bracket. Defending champion Donna Benford is not in the field.
