GAM Team Rallies in Singles to Win GAM vs. GO (Ontario) Senior Team Matches

Written By: Greg Johnson

WINDSOR, ONTARIO – At one point Team GAM trailed 5 ½ – 2 ½, but four consecutive wins in singles matches made it possible to slip past Team Golf Ontario (GO) and win the 10th GAM-GO International Senior Matches Wednesday at Essex Golf & Country Club, 6 ½ – 5 ½.

Dean Shollack of Brighton, Mitch Wilson of Portage, Chuck Christie of Beverly Hills and Tom Senkowski of Rochester Hills won the final four of eight singles matches for the GAM, which won the singles round 5 ½ – 2 ½. The GAM Team trailed 3-1 after Tuesday’s four-ball matches round.

Also scoring for the GAM in singles were Kevin Klemet of White Lake with a win, and Leo Daigle forging a tie for a half point in the first two singles matches out.

The matches, which started in 2011, were conducted for the first time since 2019 due to pandemic travel restrictions. The event is designed to promote international sportsmanship among senior golfers from Michigan and Ontario and are played over two days in Ryder Cup fashion with two eight-golfer teams representing their associations.

Representing the GAM Team this year were Christie, Daigle, Wilson, Senkowski, Klemet, Shollack, David Martin of Ann Arbor and Michael Zoerhoff of Caledonia.
