Oak Pointe Country Club Hosting GAM Tournament of Champions

Written By: Greg Johnson

BRIGHTON – Oak Pointe Country Club’s Championship Course, a traditional parkland course redesigned by Michigan Golf Hall of Fame architect Jerry Matthews, will host the GAM Tournament of Champions presented by BOYNE Golf on Monday, Sept. 30.

Champions, male and female, eligible and invited for having won a GAM member club championship or a GAM title this season, will play a final 18-hole stroke play tournament to determine a male and female champion.

The Senior Tournament of Champions presented by BOYNE Golf will be played on Oct. 7 at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club in Clarkston.

Oak Pointe, a popular private club in Livingston County, features two golf courses, the Championship, and the Honors Course.

The Championship Course is a former major renovation project of the late Matthews, who believed in his course designs fitting with the natural terrain. He added 49 bunkers through the rolling hills and valleys of a course that has several narrow fairways framed by natural heather. Accuracy is required on a course that plays to a maximum of 6,504 yards.

Justin Adams is the player development director and Christian Koval is the director of golf course maintenance.

Last year, Peter Farner of Twin Beach Country Club in Commerce Township and Chelsea Collura of West Shore Golf & Country Club in Grosse Ile closed out the tournament season with wins at Oakhurst. Collura has won two of the last three women’s Tournament of Champions titles.
