Written By: greg.johnson@emailgam.org

Three-time Michigan Amateur champion, six-time GAM Champion and the runner-up in the 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur, Bud Stevens, passed away Wednesday.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Friday from 10 a.m. to Noon with a Memorial Service at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap in Northville.

The Northville resident started in the game as a caddie at Plum Hollow Country Club at age 9 with his brother Don, who also is a former Michigan Amateur champion.

Bud was a celebrated long hitter and hit a ceremonial tee shot with other Michigan legends Pete Green and Glenn Johnson at the 100th Michigan Amateur Championship played on The Heather at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs.

“He smoked it out there, too,” said Ken Hartmann, senior director of rules and competitions for the Golf Association of Michigan.
