COMMERCE TOWNSHIP – Edgewood Country Club’s classic golf course will host the first day of the 34th GAM Net Team Championship presented by Michigan Golf Live on Monday.
A field of 80 teams, or 160 golfers, including combinations of men, women and some family duos, will play 18 holes with net four-ball scoring. At least eight teams emerging from play on Monday will advance to the final day of the championship on Sept. 26 at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield.
Edgewood hosted the 32nd GAM Net Team qualifying day two years ago as well.
The expertly maintained course plays to a par of 71 over a maximum of 6,400 yards, has been a Golf Association of Michigan member club and host of events for many years, and it has worked to continue updating and improving its golf course over the years, too.
An ongoing $9 million capital improvement project that when complete will include new golf operations and golf simulator facilities and a clubhouse exterior and foyer remodel is scheduled to be completed this October. The new Golf Services Building opened in December of last year.
In addition, in recent years the club remodeled its No. 18 hole, and in 1994 had a landscaped berm constructed along holes 7 through 9 to add some privacy.
In 1989, renowned architect Art Hills did a major renovation of the Ernest W. Way original design. Hills rebuilt and reshaped greens, added strategic bunkers and cart paths were resurfaced among other changes. One of the changes was the lake being brought into play near the green at No. 14, a 345-yard par 4. It is now regarded by the club as a feature hole on the course.

Yvette Johnson of Farmington Hills and Sean Gouda of West Bloomfield, DTE co-workers, teamed up to win the 33rd GAM Net Team Championship Finals at Meadowbrook Country Club last fall. One of the eight teams that played in last year’s finals included sponsor Bill Hobson of Michigan Golf Live.
