PLYMOUTH – Amy Dawidowicz of Troy played with her nephew Patrick in the GAM Golf Day Series Championship presented by Dunham’s Sports Monday at The Cardinal at Saint John’s, and she ended up winning the women’s gross scoring competition with an 82.
Being semi-retired with a flexible schedule allows her to plan her work around her fun, and that often involves golf with a family member. In addition to making the Series Championship with Patrick, she has enjoyed golf days with her husband and her brother this season.
“Being able to play with family is great, it’s almost as fun as playing with your friends,” she joked. “I do love my family, and yes, we enjoy it. It’s a family sport that we enjoy.”
The family plays a few times a month together, and not just at GAM Golf Days, though they are highlight rounds.
“I love the courses that the GAM picks,” she said. “I think they’re beautiful courses and they are in areas that we don’t typically get a chance to play.”
She said The Cardinal on Monday became her favorite golf day.
“The Cardinal is stunningly gorgeous, and I think it’s a pretty fair course with beautiful greens that run true,” she said. “Gosh, I can’t day enough about the Cardinal. I do like playing Oakhurst (Golf & Country Club) as well.”
For the second consecutive year GAM members who have taken advantage of the Golf Days through the summer and found some success met at The Cardinal. Those golfers who won net or gross honors in a previous golf day this summer, 84 strong, played in the season-ending championship.
The 16th season of GAM Golf Days concluded on the popular two-year-old Raymond Hearn-designed course, which was the first championship course to open to the public in Metro Detroit in over two decades and has been the centerpiece of a golf transformation at the resort. Earlier this summer the course was the site of the LIV Tour’s Team Championship tournament and highlighted on national television.
More champions, this time GAM Golf Day champions, were crowned in net and gross scoring among men, women and senior men. Among the prizes were the choice of a free Golf Day next summer and Dunham’s certificates were handed out, too.
The Series Championship flight winners in addition to Dawidowicz were Robert Szymanski of Rochester Hills with a 76 in men’s gross scoring, Scott Hodoval of Lawrenceville with a 73 in senior men’s gross scoring, Stephen Wise of Birmingham with a 73 in men’s net scoring, Jeff Hiscock of South Lyon with a 73 in senior men’s net scoring and Ann Szczerba of Commerce Township with a 69 in women’s net scoring.

The GAM Golf Days, directed by Dan Kunert, are a service for all GAM members that offers playing opportunities at top golf courses across the state, including private clubs, for cost-saving rates. Golf Days, all with 84 open slots, offer a casual yet competitive day of golf to all GAM members, men, and women, and provide opportunities no matter how they play the game.
Entry fees, between $60 and $100 per player, include 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls for warmup and prizes at the conclusion of the day. Each player receives their full course adjusted USGA/GAM Handicap. Players must have an active USGA/GAM Handicap to be eligible in the Net Division. Kunert said 2025 was a good season for the GAM Golf Days.
“The weather held out for us and almost every field was sold out immediately,” he said. “We are trying to get as many events out there for the players as possible. We had great help from the GAM staff for covering some of the out-of-town events, and I know the players from Grand Rapids appreciate us coming over there to run some events for them.”
He said The Cardinal course was in great shape for the Series Championship.
“It’s really special for the players to come here knowing they are playing on a course with championship conditioning and a championship layout. We really appreciate the Pulte Family Foundation for having this opportunity for us. They’ve been a great partner.”
Kunert said next season is in the planning stages.
“We’ve got some new locations that we’re working on to cover other parts of the state, and to keep the demand for Golf Days satisfied,” he said.
