GROSSE ILE – It took all day, two waves of 40 teams and two sudden-death playoffs at Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club, but eight teams are headed to the GAM Net Team Championship presented by Michigan Golf Live finals in September.
The GAM Net Team Championship Qualifier was played in warm, dry weather on the manicured greens and fairways at Grosse Ile.
In the Morning Wave, James Faysal of Northville and Eddie Bellamy of Farmington Hills emerged as the wave champions combining for an 8-under net four-ball score of 63.
They were tied at the end of regulation play with Brendan South and Frank Danis of Livonia but won a scorecard playoff to take home the first-place honors and trophies.
Both teams qualified for the Sept. 30 finals at Western Golf & Country Club in Redford Township, as did will Wade Manley of Commerce Township and Robert Bremer of Wixom, who shot 64.
It took an on-course sudden-death playoff to determine the fourth and final Morning Wave team. Benjamin Walling of Livonia and Colin Brady of Plymouth won on the first hole of the playoff with a par and will go to the finals. They were tied at 65 with Jeff Tucker of Howell and Roan Brinker of Rochester at the end of regulation play.
The Afternoon Wave produced the duo with the lowest score.
Jacob Angeles of Macomb and Christian Baker of Grosse Pointe Park started shot a 6-under net 30 on the front nine and finished with a 9-under 62 to take the wave championship.
The father-son duo of Mark Kavka of Troy and Alex Kavka of Royal Oak shot 63 for second to earn the finals spot, and Jonathan Joseph of Wyoming and Justin Knoper of Grandville shot 64 for third and their ticket to the finals.
The two-teams that tied at 65 went to No. 1 tee for another sudden-death playoff to decide the final spot from the afternoon.
Arthur and Patrick McCarthy of Bloomfield Hills won with a par on the third playoff hole, topping Mark Korte of Canton and Kyle Korte of Northville to earn the final spot.
