ANN ARBOR – The Polo Fields Golf & Country Club is an old friend of the Golf Association of Michigan and a perfect spot to debut a new tournament – the GAM Net Stableford.

The unique tournament for men and women golfers of various abilities is presented by Preferred Data Systems and will be played over 18 holes on Tuesday.

In a Net Stableford a player’s score for a hole is based on points awarded by comparing the player’s number of strokes (including strokes made and penalty strokes) on a hole to a fixed target score. In this competition the fixed score will be net par for each golfer.

The Net tournaments are designed by the GAM to serve more than just the elite golfers in the state in competitive formats. A field of 58 golfers registered for the first-time tournament and competition will be in male, female and senior divisions.

This the second GAM tournament of the summer at the Polo Fields. It also hosted the GAM Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

The modern links style golf course at The Polo Fields Golf & Country Club Ann Arbor will test the golfers as they battle for net point totals. It was designed by William Newcomb and opened in 1995. It is a private golf club with generous fairways, but fast challenging greens.

Steve Berger is the manager for owner Stanley J. Berger, and the superintendent is Mark McKinley. The course plays to a maximum of 6,752 yards and has eight sets of tee positions up to 5,041 yards. Visit polofielssccmi.com for more information.
