GAM Member, Red Wings Star Dylan Larkin Swings Clubs for Ally Challenge Charity

GRAND BLANC – Detroit Red Wings Captain Dylan Larkin, like a lot of hockey players an off-season avid
golfer, is also a Golf Association of Michigan member who took his swings as part of the Ally Challenge
Celebrity Shootout on Saturday, Aug. 27.

His goal, pun intended, was to help out with golf shots and charity in the event that is part of the
festivities surrounding the annual visit by the PGA Tour Champions to Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club.

“It’s always great to give back to charities and some big names are here so I’m honored to be in the
fight,” Larkin said of the scramble competition team event where $30,000 was purse to win and benefit
two Michigan-based organizations – Genesee Country Habitat for Humanity and Food Bank of Eastern
Michigan.

“I try to have one or two good shots that the group can use.”

The Waterford native who played one stellar year at the University of Michigan before becoming a
first-round NHL Draft pick of the Red Wings in 2014, said he tries to play golf a couple of times a week
and usually plays with teammates.

“It’s good,” he said. “A lot of guys play, you know Tyler (Bertuzzi) plays quite a bit, Jordan (Oesterle),
Alex (Nedeljkovic).”

It won’t be long and he will put away the golf clubs and grab his hockey stick.

“This month of August has been a long one, so I’m excited and ready to go,” he said of the hockey
season ahead.

Larkin was in celebrated company at the Shootout with golf legend Jack Nicklaus, country music star
Kane Brown, world champion boxer Anthony Dirrell, former University of Michigan basketball standout
and now television personality Jalen Rose, former Michigan State basketball star and Flint native Charlie
Bell among other celebrities like Kim Moore, the Western Michigan University women’s golf coach who
earlier this summer won the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship.

The teams in the Shootout played following the final pairing of PGA Tour Champions players in round two of the three round tournament.
