GOLF ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN

USGA Course Rating Short Course Portability Study

This autumn,  the GAM is excited to participate along with participating member clubs in the ongoing short course research study being conducted by the United States Golf Association® (USGA).

Under the current Rules of Handicapping, scores posted towards an individual’s Handicap Index® must come from tees which are longer than 1,500 yards for nine holes, or 3,000 yards for 18 holes.  In preparation for the quadrennial revision to the Rules of Handicapping and the Course Rating System™, scheduled for 2024, the USGA is partnering with Allied Golf Associations, like GAM, and member courses, on research and score testing to integrate courses underneath these length thresholds into the World Handicap System® (WHS).

In Michigan, our participating courses are:

  • Threetops GC at Treetops Resort in Gaylord
  • Green Course at Bay Meadows Family GC in Traverse City
